Academic Formation

María Eugenia Luc (06-XII-1958) is an Italo-Argentinian composer. She studied at the National University and the LIPM (Laboratory for Musical Research and Production) in Buenos Aires, the Civica Scuola di Musica Contemporanea di Milano, the École Nationale de Musique and Université de Paris VIII, as well as the University of the Basque Country, where she earned a Doctorate in Interdisciplinary Creation in Contemporary Art (Cum Laude). She was awarded scholarships to attend international courses such as Darmstadt, Accademia Chigiana di Siena, Música en Compostela, Manuel de Falla, and the Latin American Course of Contemporary Music, studying with renowned composers including Schnebel, Ferneyhough, Donatoni, and Morricone.

Recognition

Her music, awarded by institutions such as the I.I.L.A. Musical Performance

María Eugenia Luc’s work has been performed by outstanding soloists such as Mario Caroli, Harry Sparnaay, Pierre Strauch, Séverine Ballon, Claude Delangle, Jean Geoffroy, and Jean Pierre Dupuy; as well as by renowned ensembles and groups, including Vox Clamantis, Exaudi Vocal Ensemble, Bout du Monde, Barcelona 216, Taller Sonoro, Plural Ensemble, Espai Sonor, Proxima Centauri, Dúo Levent, Cello Octet Amsterdam, Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble, Grupo Enigma, Sigma Project, and S3 Spectral Sax Style. Likewise, her compositions have been performed by prestigious orchestras such as the Spanish National Orchestra, the Basque National Orchestra (Euskadiko Orkestra Sinfonikoa), the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, the Rosario Symphony Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Buenos Aires, under the direction of maestros including Robert Treviño, Nacho de Paz, Michal Nesterowicz, Ernest Martínez Izquierdo, Pablo González, Juanjo Mena, Marcelo de Jesús, Manuel Nawri, Emmanuel Siffert, and Jaime Martín, among others.

Teaching Career

She was a professor at the Conservatorio Superior and the National University of Buenos Aires, as well as a collaborator with Ricordi Milano. Between 2003 and 2011, she taught at the Faculty of Fine Arts and in the Master’s Program in Performing Arts at the University of the Basque Country. Since 2004, she has been serving as a professor of Music and Interdisciplinary Creation at MUSIKENE – Higher School of Music of the Basque Country.

Teaching Activity

María Eugenia Luc gives seminars and masterclasses at the invitation of prestigious international institutions, including the Royal Conservatory of Music of Madrid, the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna (Austria), the Hochschule für Musik and the Universität der Künste in Berlin (Germany), the Liceu Conservatory of Music in Barcelona (Spain), the Casa del Suono, and the “Arrigo Boito” Conservatory in Parma (Italy). She has also been invited by LIEM (Madrid, Spain), the University of Salamanca, the University of the Basque Country, the “Giuseppe Verdi” Conservatory and the Comune di Milano (Italy), as well as by the “Manuel de Falla” Conservatory in Buenos Aires, the National University of Rosario (Argentina), and the National University of Montevideo (Uruguay).

Distinction

In February 2016, she received the Melómano de Oro distinction, awarded by the specialized magazine Melómano, for her monographic CD De aire y luz, a musical cycle inspired by the practice of Chi Kung.

Jury

She has served as a jury member in prominent international composition competitions, including the SGAE Composition Competition, the International Composition Competition “Ciudad de Tarragona,” the Leioa Short Film Competition, the Electronic Miniatures Composition Competition, the Francesc Civil Composition Competition, the Francisco Escudero Composition Competition, and the Pablo Sorozábal Composition Competition, among others.

Foundation

In 1997, she founded KURAIA, the Contemporary Music Group, and in 2001, she established KLEM (Kuraia Electroacoustic and Multimedia Laboratory). She currently serves as the Artistic Director of Ensemble KURAIA.
